We have a permanent vacancy for a Yard Worker, Forklift Driver & Relief Transit Driver to join our team at the Chepstow branch.

The successful individual will be responsible for delivering exceptional customer service, picking orders, loading/unloading building materials, relief delivering materials to the local and surrounding area.

A builders’ merchant is a company which supplies materials to the construction sector.

Up to 85% of the built environment you see around you is supplied by Britain’s builders’ merchants. Merchants and the supply chain are crucial to the construction industry which contributes over £40 billion to the UK economy each year. A career in this essential commercial sector can be challenging, varied and rewarding.

Hours:

42.5 hours per week to be worked from Monday to Friday 7:30am – 16:30pm and alternative Saturday mornings 8:00am – 12:00pm.

Key responsibilities

• Picking orders, loading and unloading and related paperwork.
• General warehouse duties and stock management.
• Customer service – dealing with customers in person.
• Driving forklift at the branch.
• Making local deliveries on the transit.

Essential skills & experience

• Clean driving licence (Class B) and at least 2 years driving experience.
• A good understanding of metric and imperial measurements and basic mental arithmetic.
• Good paperwork skills.
• Confident communicator.
• Proven teamwork skills.
• Naturally tidy and organised.
• Willingness to engage with customers and provide good customer service.
• Ability to follow instructions and work unsupervised once trained.
• Reliable, industrious, adaptable and quick to grasp new concepts.
• Manual handling up to 25kg.

Desirable skills & experience

• Good knowledge of building materials and their usage.
• An interest in sales and in the construction industry.
• Counterbalance forklift license.
