Overview
We are looking for a permanent Counter Sales, Yard Worker & Forklift Driver to join our Monmouth Builders Merchants.
The successful individual will be responsible for delivering exceptional customer service, picking orders, loading and unloading building materials and counter sales.

A builders’ merchant is a company which supplies materials to the construction sector.
Up to 85% of the built environment you see around you is supplied by Britain’s builders’ merchants. Merchants and the supply chain are crucial to the construction industry which contributes over £40 billion to the UK economy each year. A career in this essential commercial sector can be challenging, varied and rewarding.
Hours:
42 hours per week to be worked from Monday to Friday between the hours 8:00am – 4:30pm and alternative Saturday mornings (8:00am-12:00pm).
Key responsibilities
- Counter sales and related administration.
- Book goods in and out, using point-of-sale terminal.
- Willingness to engage with customers and provide good customer service in person and on the phone.
- Merchandising and price labelling.
- General warehouse duties and stock management.
- Picking orders, loading and unloading and related paperwork.
- Driving forklift.
- The role requires excellent selling skills, customer service and team-work skills with an understanding of building materials, stock control, orders, deliveries and pricing.
- Computerised point-of-sale training will be given.

Essential skills & experience
- Building material knowledge.
- GCSE Maths (minimum grade C) and English Language with good numeracy and keyboard skills.
- Good understanding of metric and imperial measurements and basic arithmetic.
- Confident communicator with proven team work skills.
- Naturally tidy and organised.
- Counterbalance forklift licence.
- Willingness to engage with customers and provide good customer service.
- Ability to follow instructions and work unsupervised once trained.
- Reliable, industrious, adaptable and quick to grasp new concepts.
- Manual handling up to 25kg.
Desirable skills & experience
- Good knowledge of building materials and their usage.
- An interest in sales and in the construction industry.
